Welcome to the RLM Learning Space

Let's Begin

Start Now

You're here because you're already leading people. You don't need another theory of leadership; you need something you can actually use in the real workplace moments.

RLM was built from real practice, not bolted onto a personality model. It closes the gap between what you already know good leadership looks like and what you actually do under pressure.

This is a library, not a course; you'll come back to it as you need.

The RLM is a behaviour-based leadership framework. It's practical, grounded in evidence, and designed for the real moments of leadership - not the ideal ones.

It came out of 20+ years working inside people-centred organisations, starting in social work. Social work taught me that outcomes are shaped by how people are engaged, not just what they're asked to do. That principle runs through every part of this method.

The RLM is not about being a nice manager. It's about being an effective one. The two aren't in conflict, but you need both and the method gives you both.

 Why This Works

Built from practice, not theory
This wasn't built behind a desk. It came out of real conversations, real teams, and watching what actually moves the needle when someone's leading under pressure. You can read a practice guide and use it the same day, there's no translation step between "interesting idea" and "thing I do on Tuesday."

Specific, not personality-based
RLM doesn't ask you to be a different kind of person. It gives you specific, observable behaviours, things you can practise, notice yourself doing, and get better at. You don't need a personality overhaul to lead well, you need a clearer set of moves for the moments that actually test you.

A library, not a course you finish once
Most training gets completed and filed away. This is built to be used over and over, often the same practice more than once, because the same kind of situation tends to come back around in a different shape. It's here when you need it, not just while you're "doing the program."

Closes the gap between knowing and doing
You already know what good leadership looks like. The hard part has never been understanding it, it's doing it in the actual moment, when it's uncomfortable and the easy option is to let it slide. That's the specific gap RLM is built to close.

Built on relationships, not just individual skill
You don't get results despite the people on your team, you get results through them. Every practice in this library reflects that, it's not about you performing better in isolation, it's about how you show up with the people you lead.

Connection Before Correction.

You cannot address behaviour effectively in a broken or absent relationship, and you cannot build real trust by consistently avoiding what needs to be said. Relational leadership holds both at the same time. That is the skill, and it is learnable.

How The RLM Sets You Apart

Most leadership frameworks start inside with mindset, values, emotional intelligence. That work matters. But it's incomplete.

The RLM starts outside, with the actual behaviour you bring into the room, in the actual moments that determine how people experience being led.

The research base draws on organisational psychology, social work practice, adult learning theory, psychological safety, motivational interviewing, and organisational development. It's grounded in what actually works inside teams and organisations, not what looks good on paper.

Where to Start

Path 1 · Follow your diagnostic
If you have results, let them guide you. Low Foundation scores? Start with Foundational. Low Lens 2? Go straight there.

Path 2 · Start where the pressure is
If you have a live situation, for example, a person you're struggling to manage, a conversation you've been avoiding, a team that's lost its drive, go to the lens that matches the challenge.

You don't need to start at the beginning.

Path 3 · Start at the Foundation
If you're newer to the RLM, new to leadership, or you've noticed your internal state is getting in the way of your practice, start here. Everything else builds from it.

RLM Foundational

These skills set the leader up for more awareness and understanding.

The skills are where capability is actually built.

6 Lenses

Where leadership shows up. The six environments in which every manager leads every day, where capability either holds up or breaks down.

The lenses show where leadership is breaking down.

30 Leadership Practices

How leadership is done. Specific, observable behaviours that translate leadership from abstract principles into clear actions leaders can take in real situations.

The skills are where capability is actually built.
